Personal Lines Endorsement Checklists: Protection Against E&O Claims

policy-checklistWhen natural disasters strike, it's inevitable that Errors & Omissions (E&O) claims will follow, as consumers claim that their insurance policies and/or agents did not properly protect them and their assets. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is likely that there will continue to be numerous E&O claims from customers, both in commercial insurance and personal lines. As an agent, it is imperative to protect yourself and your agency from the potential negative effects of E&O claims.

In this first of a two-part series, Kelly Donahue-Piro, President of Agency Performing Partners, advises agents on protecting themselves in the face of E&O claims. Piro highlights common reasons why claims are filed against property & casualty agents, as well as reasons to add endorsements to home and auto coverage and useful policy add-ons to note. She emphasizes that the first and most important line of defense for agents regarding potential E&O claims is ensuring you have E&O insurance coverage, which "protects you, your agency, and your staff members against actual or alleged failures, negligence, and actions that you did or didn’t take," and helps cover potential fees and settlements.
